Now available for download is the 134-page rapid assessment report [size: 1.91MB] on the damages of the August 11, 2006 Petron Oil Spill, which also outlines the framework for rehabilitation set by the provincial government of Guimaras. This document also identifies the priority areas for intervention. Donors wishing to help victims of the country’s worst environmental disaster and would want to know where to put their assistance should consult this report. There are still a lot to be done for Guimaras. The task is not easy. No amount of clean-up and press releases can hasten the recovery of this beatiful island.
