11 fisher groups gets DSWD-Petron assistance

AS PART OF the rehabilitation efforts for victims of the Solar Oil Spill implemented by the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) and Petron Foundation, 11 Self-Employment Assistance (SEA) Kaunlaran associations, all victims of the oil spill, are now into seaweed growing and fishing in Sibunag, Guimaras.

The total amount of seed capital released so far reached P1,450,000 benefiting a total of 295 fisher folks and their families.


These include:

  • Sabang Seaweeds Growers, P150,000
  • Sebaste Seaweeds Growers, P150,000
  • Alegria Seaweeds Growers,P100,000
  • Paghimakas SEA-K, P125,000
  • Gumawod Seaweeds Growers, P150,000
  • Bubog Seaweeds Growers, P125,000
  • Alintabaw Seaweeds Growers, P150,000
  • Maabay Seaweeds Growers, P150,000
  • Masipag Seaweeds Growers, P125,000
  • Bay Seaweeds Growers, P125,000; and
  • Dasal Seaweeds Growers, P150,000.

Seed capital was released to these groups in two batches. Each group has a maximum of 30 members.

The first release was conducted on June 13, 2007 and the other batch just recently. Each member is allowed a P5,000 loan to be used as seed capital.

SEA-K is a capability-building program implemented in partnership with the local government units which aims to enhance the socio-economic skills of poor families through the organization of community-based associations for entrepreneurial development.

It utilizes people’s organizations to be uniformly called SEA Kaunlaran Associations (SKAs) as credit conduits. (DSWD)
